Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner has turned down an offer to manage Bayern Munich and the Bavarian giants are now set to turn to their former boss Hansi Flick, according to a report. Elsewhere in Sunday’s Paper Round, up to seven players could leave Arsenal this summer, including Aaron Ramsdale, Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe, and Kylian Mbappe will take a “huge pay cut” to join Real Madrid.
Bayern Munich will turn to Hansi Flick to fill the vacant role left by Thomas Tuchel this summer, a report has claimed.
That comes after Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner seemingly turned down an approach from the Bavarian giants.
“Hansi Flick is in pole position to become Bayern Munich’s new head coach after the German giants’ interest in Oliver Glasner was rebuffed by the Austrian,” writes the Mirror.
“Some of Europe’s elite coaches have been linked with the top job at the Allianz Arena in recent months as Tuchel’s exit draws nearer. But interest in the likes of Xabi Alonso, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag has failed to come to fruition – and another familiar name has now ruled himself out of contention for the role.
“According to Sky Sports, Glasner had been targeted by Bayern following his impressive start to life in the Premier League with Crystal Palace – but the 49-year-old will not be engaging in talks with them.
“Glasner is the second Premier League boss to rebuff interest from Bayern following Ten Hag. However, the report goes on to outline that Flick is now in talks to return to Munich for a second spell in charge. The former manager of the German national team won Bundesliga titles with Bayern before standing down from his role at the end of the 2020/21 campaign. Flick, 59, has been unattached since he was sacked by the German FA back in September 2023.”
Up to seven players could leave Arsenal this summer, according to the Mirror.
The outlet claims “bids will be considered for Aaron Ramsdale, Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe, Kieran Tierney, Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Reiss Nelson”.
The report adds that Cedric Soares, Mohamed Elneny and goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo will leave on a free.
The article continues: “Arsenal are ready to back [Mikel] Arteta with another substantial summer transfer kitty and funds could also be significantly bolstered via a handful of notable departures.
“Hale End academy graduates Nketiah, Smith Rowe and Nelson would reflect 100% profit against Premier League PSR rules which crucially, would help the Premier League title challengers keep their financial records in check ahead of another transfer splurge.
“All three have attracted interest from the Premier League while Nelson also has a market abroad after previously shining on loan in the Bundesliga and Eredivisie with Hoffenheim and Feyenoord, respectively.”
Kylian Mbappe has finally announced that he will leave Paris Saint-Germain, and The Sun claims the French star will take a “huge pay cut” to join Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old is set to leave Paris when his contract expires, seven years after joining from Monaco.
“The French forward is believed to have signed a five-year deal that will keep him at the Bernabeu until June 2029,” notes the outlet.
“Now AS are claiming that Mbappe’s salary will be vastly reduced despite him being one of the top earners at the Bernabeu.
“This latest report in the Spanish media states that Mbappe’s new contract will be almost two-thirds less than what he is currently on.
“However, he will still receive a handsome salary.
“It claims that Mbappe will pocket £21m-a-year – which equates to £404,000-a-week.
“And that will make him Madrid’s best-paid player.”
