One of the world’s greatest ever players will be back in action at the latest edition of the European Championships as Cristiano Ronaldo will be among the Portugal team looking to win the competition for the second time. The Al-Nassr forward’s influence is expected to be key despite his advancing years as he looks to add to an enviable record he already has at the tournament.

At 39 years of age, Cristiano Ronaldo remains an integral part of the Portugal squad and has been included in the squad for Euro 2024.

With a men’s record 126 goals from 208 appearances for his country to date, Ronaldo is showing no signs of letting up even as he gets older.

The Al-Nassr forward will look to lead Portugal to glory in Germany as well as adding to his own records for goals and success.

Cristiano Ronaldo has played in five European Championships with Euro 2024 set to be his sixth tournament appearance for Portugal.

Ronaldo was first selected for a Portugal squad at the 2004 Euros, which was played in his home country. He then featured in the subsequent squads in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 (which was held in 2021).

Cristiano Ronaldo has one European Championship win to his name to date, helping his country lift the trophy after they beat hosts France in the final in 2016.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first European Championship goal and first international goal for Portugal in a 2-1 group stage defeat to Greece at Euro 2004.

He scored his second in the same tournament in the semi-final win over Netherlands.

At Euro 2008, he scored his only goal of the tournament in a 3-1 group stage win over Czech Republic.

Four years later, he scored a brace in a 2-1 group stage win over Netherlands as well as the winning goal against Czech Republic in the quarter-finals.

At Euro 2016, Ronaldo scored twice in a 3-3 group stage draw against Hungary before the opener in the 2-0 semi-final victory over Wales.

Hungary were once again his victims at Euro 2020 when he scored twice in a 3-0 win. He added another to his tally in a 4-2 defeat to Germany and another brace in a 2-2 draw against France. These goals took him to 109 international goals, at the time levelling with Ali Daei who had held the record.

In total, Ronaldo has 14 European Championship goals. The most of any player in the history of the competition.

In terms of most goals in a single tournament, Ronaldo’s haul of five at Euro 2020 is some way behind the record of nine scored by Michel Platini for France in 1984.
