Mikaela Shiffrin was overtaken in the Alpine Ski World Cup overall standings by Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami, who recorded her third successive win with victory in the giant slalom in Andorra. New Zealand’s Alice Robinson placed second, while AJ Hurt of the United States was third. Gut-Behrami also leads the giant slalom and Super-G World Cup standings.
In-form Lara Gut-Behrami secured her third straight Alpine Ski World Cup victory to move above the injured Mikaela Shiffrin in the overall standings.
The Swiss star’s 43rd career success came by the narrowest of margins in Soldeu in Andorra.
Her time of 1:59.27 put her just a hundredth of a second clear of New Zealand’s Alice Robinson in a thrilling giant slalom.
Gut-Behrami, looking for a first crystal globe since 2016, was ninth after the first run, but produced a superb second run to move to the top of the overall World Cup standings with 1,214 points for the season.
This is five points clear of Shiffrin, who is yet to announce a return date following a knee injury sustained in a heavy crash in January.
Gut-Behrami also leads the way in the giant slalom and Super-G standings, but Shiffrin still has the advantage in the slalom leaderboard.
American AJ Hurt rounded off the podium in Andorra in third, edging out Italy’s Federica Brignone.
Alpine Ski World Cup action continues with a slalom tomorrow.
