Luke Berry scored a late equaliser for Luton as they salvaged a crucial point against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. Chris Wood had opened the scoring for Forest, but Berry’s 89th-minute goal earned Luton a 1-1 draw. Burnley also gained points in this season’s relegation fight, defeating Brentford 2-1 to record their first Premier League win in 2024.
Luton rescued a point against Nottingham Forest in a dramatic 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road.
Chris Wood had opened the scoring for Forest in the 34th minute, volleying Morgan Gibbs-White’s cross past Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.
It looked as if Forest would be taking home the three points and securing a six-point buffer from the Premier League’s relegation zone, but Luke Berry found a late equaliser for Luton in the 89th minute.
Ross Barkley’s corner found Reece Burke, who nodded the ball down towards the goalmouth. Berry stuck out a leg in the ensuing scramble and poked the ball into the back of the net, recording his first goal in the Premier League.
Ryan Yates had an excellent chance to restore Forest’s lead in the final minute of added time, but his effort was just wide.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side remain just three points above 18th-place Luton Town.
They would have moved up to 15th had they held onto their narrow lead, but they now remain well in contention to be relegated at the end of the season.
In the afternoon’s other relegation battle, Burnley recorded their first Premier League victory in 2024 by defeating Brentford 2-1.
The hosts got off to a superb start at Turf Moor thanks to Jacob Bruun Larsen’s early penalty, which also saw Sergio Reguilon sent off for Brentford.
The left-back, currently on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, was judged to have fouled Burnley winger Vitinho in the penalty box and was given a straight red card.
David Datro Fofana doubled the lead in the second half, making amends for scuffing his shot in front of an open goal just before half-time.
The Chelsea loanee ran onto Wilson Odobert’s pass and calmly put the ball past Brentford goalkeeper Arijanet Muric, who was making his Premier League debut.
Brentford got a foot back into the game when Kristoffer Ajer scored a header in the 83rd minute.
It looked as if the visitors had found an equaliser when Muric failed to save a looping cross from Shandon Baptiste, but the goal was ruled out for a foul by Ivan Toney on the goalkeeper.
Burnley remain 19th in the Premier League table, and are now eight points from safety. Brentford are in 15th, just four points above the relegation zone.
