New Zealand received a boost for their third and final one-day international against England after it was confirmed captain Sophie Devine had made a full recovery from a calf strain. The 32-year-old had missed the fifth T20 and first two ODIs of England’s tour, but will return in Hamilton tomorrow. The match will be broadcast live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
New Zealand captain Sophie Devine will return from a calf strain for the third and final one-day international against England.
Devine had missed out on the fifth T20 and first two ODIs of England’s tour, live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
The 34-year-old will be brought back into the fold tomorrow after passing a fitness test earlier this week.
“Having Sophie lead them out tomorrow will fill the team with confidence,” New Zealand head coach Ben Sawyer said.
“Sophie is always going to be a big miss whenever she is unavailable so we’re delighted to be able to bring her back.”
Devine will aim to inspire New Zealand to victory against England, who lead the three-match ODI series 2-0.
The visitors recovered from 79-6 to beat New Zealand by four wickets in the first match in Wellington, before winning by 56 runs in Hamilton.
New Zealand’s opening batter Bernadine Bezuidenhout will be absent from the third ODI after pulling her hamstring while fielding during the second match.
“We’re disappointed for Bernie, who’s already faced her fair share of injury challenges this summer,” Sawyer said. “We’re hoping she will make a quick recovery as we look ahead to a busy winter of cricket.”
