Rodri has returned to Spain following the death of his grandmother and is a doubt for Manchester City’s clash with Huddersfield Town in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday. City boss Pep Guardiola provided injury updates on Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, and said sickness had struck Bernardo Silva, Kalvin Phillips, Matheus Nunes and Scott Carson.
Manchester City could be without Rodri for the FA Cup clash with Huddersfield following the death of the player’s grandmother.
The midfielder has returned to his native Spain, and manager Pep Guardiola confirmed Rodri would be given all the time that he needs.
“Today and tomorrow he will not be here,” Guardiola said. “Hopefully he will come back for the game but, if he needs to stay, family issues are the most important thing.”
Guardiola had positive news on injured stars Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne, but will not rush them back into action.
Haaland has not played since December 6 due to a foot injury, while De Bruyne has been absent since the summer and Doku since early December.
While the FA Cup meeting with The Terriers may come too soon, City face Newcastle in the Premier League on January 13 – a game that is live on TNT Sports – and a fair wind could see at least one of the trio feature.
“Jeremy feels really good and Kevin as well,” Guardiola said. “Kevin was out for a long time so we have to be patient.
“They are ready, the last two or three training sessions with us
“Erling is also a little bit better. It is the bone so that is why I have to be a little bit more careful. They feel good and are improving.
“Hopefully [they will be able to play soon].”
Guardiola also revealed a sickness bug had hit Bernardo Silva, Kalvin Phillips, Matheus Nunes and Scott Carson, while Jon Stones was training alone in his bid to return to full fitness.
“Bernardo, Scotty, Kalvin and Matheus Nunes, they are suffering,” Guardiola said.
“He’s (Stones) getting better but not training with us. I don’t know [when he’s back].”
