Paulo Dybala was again at the forefront of everything good for rejuvenated Roma, who now find themselves a point off the top four in Serie A after cruising to a comfortable 4-1 win over Monza. Dybala scored and set up Romelu Lukaku for the visitors’ second, while Lorenzo Pellegrini and Leandro Paredes also added their names to the scoresheet. Andrea Carboni added a consolation for the hosts.
Paulo Dybala played another starring role to propel Roma to a comfortable 4-1 win over Monza in Serie A.
Roma registered their third straight league win under Daniele de Rossi since their 4-2 home defeat by Inter in early February, with Dybala notching a goal and an assist to move his side into European contention.
Lorenzo Pellegrini, Romelu Lukaku, and Leandro Paredes completed the visitors’ scoring, while Andrea Carboni scored a consolation for the hosts with three minutes to play.
Roma thought they had gone in front when Bryan Cristante’s side-footed effort was chalked off on 20 minutes after Dybala was adjudged to have been interfering with play from an offside position.
Pellegrini put the Giallorossi ahead on 38 minutes as he stroked home into the far corner after showing some neat footwork to work his way into the Monza box.
The second followed just four minutes later, when Lukaku, the on-loan Chelsea striker, swept home Dybala’s cross from the left.
Dybala turned goal scorer just after the hour with a beautiful free kick into the bottom right corner, leaving Michele Di Gregorio in the home net clasping at thin air.
Paredes completed the rout with eight minutes remaining as he struck from the penalty spot after Warren Bondo was deemed to have felled Dean Huijsen.
There was still time for Carboni to net a consolation for Monza, as he lashed home a spectacular drive from the inside-left channel that caught Mile Svilar out at his near post.
However, it was too little, too late, as Roma’s fantastic form under de Rossi continues, and the Giallorossi are now up to fifth in the table, one point off Bologna, who occupy the final top four spot.
